We’re proud to be hosting the UK release of an exciting new book by Joe Nazzaro. Joe will be appearing on the education stage to talk about this major publication, Star Trek Beyond: The Makeup Artistry of Joel Harlow, which you’ll also be able to buy in the exhibitors’ rooms.
Joe Nazzaro is a New Jersey/London-based entertainment journalist with more than a dozen books and three thousand interviews to his credit.
He’s been writing about makeup FX for more than three decades, for such magazines as Starlog, SFX, Sci Fi Now, Starburst and Fangoria. Nazzaro has written for Makeup Artist Magazine since 2000, contributing more than 40 cover features over the past decade and a half. He’s also written for Prosthetics Magazine since day one.
Nazzaro previously wrote about the makeup FX of Star Trek in Star Trek: The Next Generation Makeup FX Journal (Starlog Press/Titan Books, 1991) and Farscape in The Creatures of Farscape (Reynolds & Hearn, 2004). His two-part feature on Star Trek Beyond for Prosthetics Magazine led to his new book, Star Trek Beyond: The Makeup Artistry of Joel Harlow.
It’s an in-depth examination of the fifty-plus alien races that Harlow and his team created for the film. The deluxe hardcover meticulously examines every step of the creative process, from initial design to finished on-set makeup, with running commentary from Joel Harlow throughout, as well as contributions from a number of his key artists. It also features hundreds of full-colour photos, of concept designs, sculptures and behind the scenes shots, not to mention introductory comments from director Justin Lin and writer/actor Simon Pegg, and an afterward by actress Sophia (Jaylah) Boutella. We can’t wait to get our hands on this book at the event!
