The University of Bolton offers a BDes (Hons) in Special Effects for Film & Television, a BDes (Hons) in Special Make-Up Effects for Film and TV, and a BDes (Hons) in Model-Making Effects for Film and TV as well as a BSc in Visual Effects for Film and TV. Here’s what they say about their thriving department:
“We are very proud of our small boutique courses. Courses like ours can be creative, interesting and move as fast as the industry which they serve, but importantly they can also be comforting, accommodating and friendly.
Our unique range of programmes have been designed to allow creatively minded students to explore and develop both design and problem solving skills and apply them to the art of creating special effects for film and television. Our courses are designed to offer specialisation while still nurturing an understanding of the entire landscape of special effects disciplines.
We consider industry links to be a priority and we are constantly developing and maintaining these, which has led to some modules of the course being taught directly by industry practitioners. Our staff are very hands on, skilled, friendly and enthusiastic. Prioritising one-to-one support, we like to make sure we’re all where we need to be.
Our reputation within the industry is growing, for the most part, due to our graduates working on some of the most exciting projects in film and TV.
Our facilities are studio focused meaning that all students have somewhere to work when they need to. We think it’s important that work continues outside of class and our workshops are designed to reflect this. In our main studio, you will find yourself working alongside students from all 3 years of the course as well as our staff team. We work alongside our students so that they can benefit from our practical experience and support outside of the classroom as well as in.”
