Ailsa Berk

Ailsa Berk

Ailsa Berk is a dancer, actor and creature performer; she has also been the chief creature choreographer since the inception of the modern series of ‘Doctor Who’ and will be part of our special feature ‘Hiding Behind the Sofa – the Monsters of Doctor Who’ on the Education Stage, with Kate Walshe and Jon Davey.
In true ‘Doctor Who’ spirit, inside every monster is a really nice human! Kate Walshe (prosthetic effects producer) will be talking to Ailsa Berk and Jon Davey (creature performer) about bringing the monsters of Doctor Who to life – from the inside out.

With special behind the scenes images and video of recent creatures from the show, they will tell tales of the blood, sweat and tears that go into creating some of the most well loved terrors on British television.

Having been a creature performer on some of the all time great movies – ‘Greystoke: the Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes’ (Kala), ‘Return to Oz’, (Wheeler) ‘Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi’ (Amanaman) and playing TV roles such as Hans in Jim Henson’s ‘The Storyteller’ and Aslan in the BBC adaptation of ‘The Chronicles of Narnia’, Ailsa now works as a performance choreographer and consultant, developing characters through movement on shows such as ‘Da Vinci’s Demons’ and some of the ‘Harry Potter’ films for example.
