Chris Clarke is back by popular demand and joins us during a long stint as Key Animatronic Designer on the ‘Star Wars’ movies. He will be on the Main Stage giving an insight into the incredibly complex and technical discipline of animatronics.
He is a twenty-eight year veteran of the television and movie industry and is an internationally renowned master of his craft. He is of the ‘self taught’ variety of technician that’s more common of that era and learned his craft as a child by ignoring football, being considered a bit ‘odd’ by his school friends and spending every spare minute in the garage sculpting, model making, moulding and engineering creatures, stop-motion armatures, steady-cam rigs and even, with reasonable success, optical printers.
As well as a multitude of credits on television series’, adverts, promos and displays, Chris has worked on in excess of 45 movies to date including ‘Munich’, the ‘Harry Potter’ series, ‘War Horse’, ‘Wrath of the Titans’, ‘The Golden Compass’, ‘Resident Evil’, John Carter’ and ‘Black Hawk Down’. Currently on the ‘Star Wars’ crew as Key Animatronic Designer, his role there involves sharing his wealth of knowledge with the younger CFX team to help create the hundreds of alien creatures that inhabit that world.
Chris is a leading light within the animatronics field and is always willing to share his methods. Talking about this specialist branch of makeup FX and creature work, he will cover his approach to visualisation, creation and his philosophy of the fundamentals of animatronic design.
