Veronica McAleer is an internationally acclaimed, double Oscar nominated and Emmy Award winning Make–up and Hair Designer. She has worked on over 30 feature films and countless TV shows, personally designing the make-up for 15 of her film credits. Veronica will be re-creating the extreme character make-up she designed for actor Paul Bettany in ‘The Da Vinci Code’ on the stand for her new make-up academy MAKUP.
Over the last ten years actors Paul Bettany, Jennifer Connelly and Colin Firth have all requested Veronica to work as their Personal Hair and Make-up Artist on a total of 11 films, and the extensive list of famous names she has worked with include James McAvoy, Michael Caine, Geoffrey Rush, Daniel Craig, Adrian Brody, Ioan Gruffudd, Johnny Lee Miller, Damien Lewis, Ray Winstone, Andy Serkis, Anne Hathaway, Keira Knightly, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Helena Bonham Carter, Judi Dench, Miranda Richardson, Minnie Driver, Julie Walters, Maggie Smith and Emily Watson to name only some.
Veronica received an Oscar nomination in 1997 for her work on ‘Mrs. Brown’, and again the following year for ‘Shakespeare in Love’. In 2002, she won a Royal Television Society Award (RTS) for Best Make Up and Hair Design on drama-documentary ‘The Great Plague’, and in 2003, she won an Emmy Award for Best Hair Design for her work on ‘The Life and Death of Peter Sellers’. Having been widely celebrated for her own skill and expertise over many years, Veronica is now passionate about sharing her wealth of knowledge to those that would like to follow in her footsteps, and is opening her own training facility MAKUP, The Academy of Film and Media Makeup in Birmingham. The Academy will provide outstanding learning and development opportunities for beginners and experienced make-up artists, utilising Veronica’s vast network of contacts to provide first–rate work placements.
She is the creative visionary and founder of The Academy, as well as one of its principal tutors and will be personally involved in training students in becoming fully set-ready.
